Looking back into the distant, but also the recent past, while understanding the present moment and believing in the future, we can say with certainty that Freemasonry in Serbia has been successfully revived and that it is on the right path. Despite all the difficulties and obstacles it encountered, its further development is — through the existence, activity and rapid growth of the Regular Grand Lodge of Serbia — stable and secure.
The Light was brought to this region as early as the 18th century, yet only 95 years have passed since that, to us distant, year of 1919 — the moment when the first Grand Masonic Lodge was founded on the territory of present-day Serbia. The path of its creation was unusual, tied to the turbulent history of this European region. While in the Masonic world existing Lodges placed themselves under the protection of Grand Lodges in the state where they operated, and collateral orders were born from them, here historical circumstances imposed a different order.
Only the creation of a new state — the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, and later the Kingdom of Yugoslavia — provided the conditions for the formation of a Grand Lodge. It went through a difficult path of ups and downs, even long periods of deep sleep, but the Light itself and its idea were never extinguished. The desire for truth, justice and freedom always guided the true ones. The Light was rekindled, the Grand Lodge was awakened. Several turbulent years passed. Countless difficulties followed and restrained us. Yet great enthusiasm, work and effort brought us to the present day.
Things have finally fallen into place. The Regular Grand Lodge of Serbia has once again become the source of the Masonic idea, the protector of 62 Lodges, a brotherhood of more than 2,000 initiated men of good repute, the root and foundation of the collateral orders. Thanks to this, the entire Masonic world today recognizes in the Regular Grand Lodge of Serbia the true strength and the sole holder of the sovereign and supreme Masonic authority on the territory of present-day Serbia — the legitimate successor of the first Grand Lodge.
